Kathleen Louise McDonnell Acree, 74, peacefully departed this life on August 1, 2021. Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
She was the second child born to Norma M. McDonnell and Owen E. McDonnell, Sr. on November 10, 1946, in Mobile, Alabama. Known to her family and friends as "Bolie", Kathleen spent all of her life in Mobile, aside from a brief period living and working in New Orleans after graduating from Bishop Toolen High School.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Kathleen "Kate" Acree. She is survived by her son, Roe Acree, Jr. (Danielle) and her grandchildren, Edward, Emma and Willow Acree. She is also survived by her siblings, Ann M. Cottrell, Owen "Mickey" McDonnell, Jr., Gregory McDonnell, Matthew (Jane) McDonnell and Laura M. Turnbaugh (Jim), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will remember Kathleen as a lover of the Arts, flowers and trees, history, architecture and antiques, with a special love for "antique" people. She worked for many years with Maureen Haas, owner of The Magnolias, a well-known and respected local antique business. Working with "Miss Totsie", Kathleen gained an impressive knowledge of fine American and English furniture. Later, after The Magnolias closed, many sought Kathleen's assistance in authenticating and appraising their antiques. She also became a caregiver to Anne and Susan Crichton, "The Crichton Sisters".
Kathleen was a giving soul, always willing to help someone in need. It has been said by many that she was born 100 years too late. Perhaps there is some truth to that as she preferred a simpler, slower pace from a different time. May her gentle spirit and memory live on in those of us who were fortunate to have known her.
