Albert "Manny" Gibson Sr., a Powell Butte resident passed away at his home on Saturday, May 21, 2005. He was 86 years old.

Private services were held at Powell Butte Cemetery.

"Manny" was born on Jan. 13, 1919 in Montesano, Wash. to William and Jenny (Card) Gibson. He attended the Montesano School system. At the age of 14, he started driving log truck. He continued logging and moved to Springfield, Oregon in 1943, where he met Clara "Bunny" Stephens, his wife of 59 years. They were married on November 24, 1945, in Centralia, Washington. He was active with school sports while coaching basketball in Leaburg, Oregon and the YMCA Church League basketball in Eugene, Oregon. In the early 1960's he moved to Lincoln County, still logging and also owned and operated Al's Saw & Logging Supply. Also during this time he became very involved in land development. He developed Nechesne Estates on the lower Salmon River in Lincoln County. Retiring in 1968, he moved back to Springfield, Oregon before moving to their ranch in Powell Butte, Oregon in 1973, where he and Bunny bought and sold cattle. His enjoyment was traveling to Mexico and Alaska where he has taken many fish and game trophies including the prestigious Grand Slam of North American Wild Sheep.

He was a charter member of the Oregon Hunters Association, life member of the North American Wild Sheep, and a charter member of the Oregon Chapter of North American Wild Sheep. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Gibson is survived by his wife "Bunny" of Powell Butte, three sons; Albert (Scott) Jr. of Gig Harbor, Washington, Dewey Gibson of Redmond, Oregon, and Stanley Gibson of Prineville, Oregon, daughter Judith Ann Courtney of Redmond, Oregon, 10 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, one great-grandchild, and three brothers and two sisters.

Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
