Kenneth Joe Pittman passed away on August 4, 2021 at the age of 76 after receiving loving care at AMOREM hospice in Valdese, NC. He was blessed to be able to visit with family and friends and watch the birds feeding outside his window which was always a favorite pastime.

As a child, Ken grew up in Spruce Pine, NC, was an accomplished pianist, played piano for his family church at Pine Branch Baptist in Spruce Pine, NC, and played trombone in Harris High School. He received his bachelor's degree at Western Carolina University and his master's at Appalachian State University.

After many years as a psychologist, both in the public and private sector in western NC, he retired from J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. He enjoyed retirement by observing nature, relaxing with family and friends, and enjoying all genres of live music, always with his wife of 36 years, Bonnie. Together, they had 5 children: Chris, Tim, Sandra (Fabian), Beverly (Russell), Jacob (Patricia). They also had 10 grandchildren: Christian, Michaela, Sophia, Ashlyn, Lillie (Logan), Aden, Troy, Bella, Kaden, and Azure. Also, 1 great grandchild, Xander. A sister, Carol (Andrew) is also surviving.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday, August 9, 2021 at Sossoman Funeral Home. A celebration of Ken's life will follow at noon in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating. The graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday at Pine Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Spruce Pine, NC.
