Parents: Percy Kuhn and Agatha (Summers) Kuhn

Duane S. Kuhn passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 19th. Duane was born on March 12, 1932 in Buffalo, New York to loving parents Percy Kuhn and Agatha (Summers) Kuhn. He was later joined by his younger brother, Philip Kuhn. Duane met and fell in love with Carol Ann Nichols at the University of New York College for Teachers in Buffalo and they married on June 30, 1956. Duane served his country in the 101st Airborne as an instructor at Fort Jackson South Carolina during the Korean War. He proudly received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his service he traveled with his wife to Colorado and started a family. He worked as a food salesman for many years enjoying his travels throughout the West. During this time Duane also continued his love of flight since he was a young boy by becoming an aviation historian. He documented aircraft with his photography, many of which were published in aviation periodicals, and memberships in a variety of aviation organizations including the American Aviation Historical Society. After retiring from food service he volunteered for the Broomfield Police Department and thoroughly enjoyed that position for sixteen years. In 2004, Duane was the recipient of the Liberty Bell Award at the Annual Law Day Breakfast held by the Adams/Broomfield Bar Association based on his sense of civic responsibility with the Broomfield Police Investigations Division. In 2007, Duane "retired" from his volunteer work at the age of 75. During his final months Duane maintained his ubiquitous sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol. The Kuhn family conveys their heartfelt gratitude to the incredible collaborative team at Trail Winds Hospice. Duane's present families are his daughter Jennifer and her husband Mike Kerr, his son Christopher and his wife Claire. In lieu of flowers his family asks that donations be made in his name to one of his three favorite charities: The Commemorative Air Force, the American Battlefield Trust and The Army Historical Foundation. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 19th at 11:30am at Rundus Funeral Home located at 1998 W. 10th Avenue in Broomfield. Duane's final resting place will be Fort Logan National Cemetery where he will be buried with honors.
