Visitation will take place Tuesday, August 10 from 5:00-7:00 PM at St Joseph's Catholic Parish, Brimfield, Illinois. Mass of Christian Burial will take place also at St. Joseph's Parish on Wednesday August 11 at 11:00 with final visitation taking place prior to Mass from 10:30-11:00. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Peoria, Illinois.

Mr. Mattern was born on 9/12/1935 in Henry, Illinois to George E. and Gertrude (Kapraun) Mattern.
He was a retired welder and worked for many years in local manufacturing companies, notably Caterpillar and Wabco. Mr. Mattern was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. A man of deep faith, he was a hobby farmer and lifelong lover of the outdoors, gardening, nature study and he was always surrounded by books!
Mr. Mattern is survived by one son Stephen Mattern (Marcia), of Brimfield, Illinois and two sisters, Florence Steele of Henry, Illinois and Clara Steele of Kewanee, Illinois, along with six grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Congregation of Saint John Contemplative Sisters, Princeville, Illinois or to St. Joseph's Church, Brimfield, Illinois.
