Christa S. Moorhead Dies
Christa S. Moorhead, 99, a native of Petrolia in Humboldt County, died Saturday. She had lived the past nine years at the Casa del Rey retirement hotel and later the La Casa Extended Care Hospital.
Born on Christmas day of 1874 to Humboldt pioneer parents James and Lucinda Dudley, she attended schools in Petrolia and Eureka. She passed the examination for her teacher's credential in 1893.
She was married on her 19th birthday to Philo Moorhead. The couple had four children: Ruth French of Santa Cruz, Gladys Barnwell of Bridgeville, Garland Moorhead of Weaverville and Mae St. Angelo of San Jose.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Moorhouse was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Santa Cruz, the Humboldt County Pioneers and Humboldt County Historical Society.
Funeral services were today at the Sanders Funeral Home in Eureka. The Rev. James M. Brown of First Presbyterian Church officiated. Internment will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka.
