He married Miss Elizabeth Goodwin Hart of Sunny Bank, daughter of Andrew deJarnette Dew Hart and Virginia Taylor Byrd. They had one son, Colonel William Atkinson Jones III. They were divorced in 1929.
William A. Jones, Jr. graduated from the University of Virginia and then served in the US Army Signal Corps during WW I as a pilot. He was a flight instructor at Love Field, Texas for the duration. After the war, Mr. Jones practiced law and was the Commonwealth Attorney of Richmond County for many years. He also served in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary during WW II patrolling the coast in his beloved boat, the Billdad.
