Obituary
Steven B. McQuiston, affectionately known as Steve, breathed his last breath here on earth on Sunday morning, August 8, 2021, at his home surrounded in love by family, and immediately breathed his first in God's Heavenly Kingdom. Born on November 9, 1951 in Plaquemine, Steve was one of four children born to the union of Thomas McQuiston and the former Ruby Roberts. He married Ophema Higgins, the love of his life, on November 12, 1977, and since, the two have been virtually inseparable.

First and foremost, Steve was a minister of God, missionary preacher to Honduras and Mexico, and former pastor of Victory Tabernacle Church in Adeline. Bro. Steve always strived to put God first in his life. He never shied away from preaching his faith in Jesus Christ and helped lead many to the Lord. He could often be found sitting at his dining room table meditating and studying scripture in preparation for his sermons.

An avid outdoorsman and lover of God's great work of art we call nature, Steve enjoyed deer hunting in his earlier years and had a lifelong love of fishing, especially with his wife. This love led him to work as a commercial fisherman. He also found great joy in gardening. If you drove past his home you could usually see him getting his hands dirty, working the earth, and tending to his massive garden. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Those he leaves to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 44 years, Ophema Higgins McQuiston; four children, Angel Graves and her husband Mike, David McQuiston, Thomas McQuiston and his wife Jamie Sue, and April McQuiston and her fiancé Mike Picard; his mother, Ruby Williams; nine grandchildren, Alexandra "Alex" Smith and her husband Adam, Brandon McQuiston and his fiancée Kelly Blanchard, Sarah Brayleigh McQuiston, Alyse Smith and her husband Neil, Brooke Poston and her husband Chris, Jordan Holloway and her husband Phillip, Tommy Lee McQuiston, Brock Moneaux, and Brayton Picard; ten great grandchildren, his sister, Peggy Paredes and her husband Carlos; his brother, Malcom McQuiston and his wife Sheryl; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas McQuiston; his step-father, Johnny Williams; and his brother, Hollis McQuiston.

Funeral services celebrating Steve's life will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Victory Tabernacle Church. Presiding over the services will be Reverends Jesse "Bull" Higgins, Chris Hebert, and Thomas Olander Sr. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Victory Tabernacle Cemetery. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Heart of Hospice and a very special thanks to his caregivers for the past six plus years.
