Funeral services for Mr. Orvin Donald Nichols will be held at 2:00p.m Monday, March 26, 2012 in the Big Hammock Baptist Church in Leander, La. Burial will follow in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 25, from 4 to 9p.m. at the church.

Orvin Donald Nichols, 72, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012 after a brief illness.

Mr. Nichols spent a career in the United States Air Force. After retirement, he spent another career as a civil servant at Fort Polk. Mr. Nichols was a life long pilot and flight instructor and taught many people how to fly. He loved nature, camping, and the mountains of Colorado.

Mr. Nichols was born in 1939 in Glenmora to Oscar and Delia Goleman Nichols. He is survived by his wife Dottie Carol Nichols of Leesville, brother Oren Nichols of Houston, Texas, daughters Sandra Phagan of Vivian, Louisiana, Molora Vadnais of Santa Barbara, California, and Naomi Free of Shreveport, son David Nichols of Shreveport, stepdaughters Rhonda Douglas of Taylor,Texas and Charlotte Bradford of Dallas,Texas, and stepson George Bradford of Plano, Texas. Mr. Nichols had nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren each of whom he taught to kayak and fish.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers Gethren and Grady Nichols, and his first wife Kala Smith Nichols.
