Donald "Don" E. Campbell, age 87, Joplin, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at his residence. Don was born April 5, 1920, in Jasper, Mo., to the late Harold Clark Campbell and Lucille Kirby Campbell and had lived in the Joplin area all of his life. He attended Joplin schools and in 1938 he joined the C.C.C.'s in Iowa and served there. He joined the United States Army in 1940, and was stationed in Houston, Texas, with the 2nd Division. He served in the European Theatre in Germany, France, and Holland with the 95th Division, 23rd Infantry. He earned three Bronze Stars and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and Expert Marksmanship Award. Don was in business with his father before becoming an agent for Prudential Insurance. He retired after 29 years of service. He was a charter member of Briarbrook Country Club and he loved to golf; hunt; and fish. He was a faithful member of First Christian Church in Joplin, and was a member of the American Legion. He married Lois L. Overman on Oct. 12, 1945, in Joplin. She survives at the home.Additional survivors include two daughters, Sherri Orender and husband, Darrell, Webb City, and Patti Burrington and husband, Paul, Joplin; three grandchildren, Gretchan Moss and husband, Jeff, Webb City, Chad Burrington and wife, Courtney, Joplin, and Aaron Schmid, Centerton, Ark.; four great-grandchildren, Brittany, Colton, Ryan and Lauren; his twin sister, Dorothy Hutchins, Carthage; and one brother, George Campbell and wife, Bess, Little Rock, Ark. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Campbell; and a sister, Edith Stehm, both of Tulsa. Services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at First Christian Church. Fred Pugh, Minister, will officiate. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Burrington, Darrell Orender, Chad Burrington, Aaron Schmid, Jeff Moss and Mark Richards. Honorary pallbearer will be Gretchan Moss. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Family Life Center. The family would like to express their gratitude to Trinity Hospice for their support and love.
