S. L. PIONEER'S RITES PLANNED
Fielding- Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Ann Richards Smith, 91, one of Utah's oldest residents, will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p. m. in the Fielding L. D. S. ward chapel by Leo Earl, bishop.

Mrs. Smith was born in Salt Lake City, March 24, 1849, a daughter of Willard Richards, L. D. S. church apostle, and Nanny Longstroth Richards. She attended the Salt Lake City schools and aided her father in sorting type for the old hand-set editions of the Deseret News, of which her father was the first editor. She taught school at Farmington until she was married to Lot Smith.

Returned to Utah
After residing in Arizona 14 years, Mrs. Smith returned to Utah and with her children was among the first settlers of the Bear river valley.

An active member of the L. D. S. church, she was the first president of the Fielding L. D. S. ward Primary association and the second president of the Relief society in that ward.

Mrs. Smith died at the home of a son Joseph H. Smith, in Fielding, Monday morning of causes incident to age.

Surviving are three sons, Willard R. Smith of Holbrook, Idaho; Joseph H. Smith of Fielding and Albert Smith of Ruby Valley, Nev.; 32 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, George F. Richards of the L. D. S. council of 12 apostiles, Willard B. Richards and Fred W. Richards and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann VanFleet of Farmington, Mrs. Phoebe Peart of Salt Lake City and Mrs. Pauline Doremus of Los Angeles.

Interment will be in the Fielding cemetery.
