She was born March 2, 1883 in London, England to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Evans. On Sept. 26, 1903 she was married to Alfred Herbert Abbee at St. John's Episcopal Church in London and came to the United States with her husband in 1905. (CORRECTION: Grace came to America in 1907 after the birth of their son, Alfred John Abbee, in England.) They settled in Joliet, Illinois and later moved to St. Louis, Missouri. She had resided in Edwardsville since 1937.
She is survived by her husband; one son, H. James Abbee of Edwardsville; one daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Lucille) Kelly, Mountainside, New Jersey; two sisters, Mrs. Hetty Emery, Brighton, England, and her twin sister, Mrs. Eleanor Astbury, of Joliet, Illinois. Also surviving are two grandsons, Chad and Mark Kelly. Four brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
The deceased was a member of Edwardsville Chapter 667 Order of Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron in 1930 and a charter member of the Past Matrons club of that order. She was a member of St. John's Methodist Church, a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, a past-president of the Ladies Bible class and of the former Ladies Aid Society of the church.
Friends may call at the Weber Funeral Home after 2 PM Tuesday until 11 AM Wednesday when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state. Services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday with the Rev. Clyde Funkhouser, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. The Edwardsville Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star will be in charge of the graveside services.
