It is with great sorrow that the family of Aili Juliana Rinne announce the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother at her residence at Hogarth Riverview Manor, on November 12, 2007 in her 89th year. Born in Port Arthur, she attended Shuniah Public School, Port Arthur Collegiate Institute and North Bay Normal School. Aili began her teaching career in a one-room school in Lappe, then moved on to Nipigon and Sultan, Ontario, teaching for six years before her marriage. Following the birth of her children she returned to the classroom and enjoyed 25 years on the staff at Claude Garton School. Retiring in 1980, Aili enjoyed travel, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Aili was a faithful and long-time member of Bethel Lutheran Church, relying on her faith for strength and solace during the sorrowful events in her life. Aili is survived by daughters: Marianne Vranch (John), and Carolyn Pelletier (Fern); sons: Gary (Mavis), and Robert (Minelle); eleven grandchildren: David, Sarah, Simone, Nathan, Mia, Aimee, David, Leanne, Eric, Marc, and Rochelle; and three great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Nadia, and Lucas. She was predeceased by her parents, Alma and Peter Kartinen; husband August; youngest daughter Barbara; and brothers: Henry and Allan. Funeral Services for the late Aili Rinne will be held on Friday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Pastor Jari Lahtinen with a reception to follow. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. A Private Family Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery following the reception. Aili requested, if friends so desire, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation, or to a charity of your choice which benefits children.
