Frances Montene (Nelson) Mort of Lansing, Passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, April 25, 2021 at the age of 91. Fran was born in Cullman, Alabama on October 9, 1929, the daughter of John and Lena (Fallin) Nelson. Fran was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lansing and belonged to the Capital City Quilt Guild for 27 years and was known as the "Quilt Lady" by many. She was involved in the exercise class at the Lansing Mall Food Court for 17 years and volunteered at St Lawrence Hospital in the Emergency Room. Fran was an avid flower and vegetable gardener.

Fran is survived by her son, Kerwin Mort of Lansing; granddaughter, Sarah Vanek of Lansing; son-in-law, Martin Vanek of Eaton Rapids; brother, Paul; special friends who loved Fran dearly, Debora, Randy, Abby Sillman and Damian Klein, all of St Johns. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; daughter, Carman Vanek and 5 siblings.

No funeral or graveside services per Fran's wishes. Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI on April 29, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association. The family is being served by the Mills Funeral Home, Shelly-Odell Chapel, Eaton Rapids.
