LERONA — Mr. Ray Lester Goodwin, 91, of the Browns Ridge Road, Lerona, departed this life on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at the Glenwood Park Retirement Village, only to enter into the portals of Glory.
Born May 31, 1916, at Landisburg, he was the son of the late Harry Morgan Goodwin and Lizzie Florence White Goodwin.
Mr. Goodwin entered the service in 1941 to serve with the U.S. Army, He was veteran of World War II, while serving his country, he received the American Service Defense Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, WW II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, he was discharge with the rank of Sergeant with the 1504th AAF Base Unit.
Mr. Goodwin was a retired coal miner, having worked for Eastern Gas & Fuel Association, Kopperston for many years, he was a member of Local No. 7604 of the UMWA.
Mr. Goodwin was a member of Rocky Mount Community Church near Pipestem, a member of the AF & AM Masonic Lodge No. 138 of Pineville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Garnet Jeanetta Gill Goodwin; three children, Sharon Kay, Gary, & Betty Goodwin; along with siblings, Everette Goodwin, Goldie Stickler, Sylvia Taylor and Dorothy Goodwin.
Those left to cherish is wonderful memories, his children, Pastor Ray L. "Buck" Goodwin Jr. & wife Velna of Lerona, Harry Steven Goodwin & wife Kathy of Jumping Branch, William Paul Goodwin & wife Sheila of Annapolis Md., Verna Mize of Princeton; sister, Freda Garten of Morgantown; 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, a host of nephews and nieces.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Goodwin will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2007 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with two of his sons officiating, Buck Goodwin and Steven Goodwin. Burial will follow in the Gwinn Cemetery, on Lockbridge Road, near Meadow Bridge where Masonic Graveside services will be held. Also, the West Virginia Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services.
Friends may visit with the family today from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Willie Paul Goodwin, Chris Goodwin, Matthew Phillips, Dempsey Phillips, Scott Worley, Jason Worley, David Hutchinson and Bill Kesner.
