VIRGINIA BEACH - Floyd Lee Murphy, 83, of Princess Anne Road, died Jan. 26, 2002 in a local hospital.
He operated Murphy's Grocery in Creeds until his retirement in 1995 and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
He was the son of the late Lonnie and Mittie Murphy and was predeceased by two brothers, G. Gentry and Melvin L. Murphy.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Helen G. Murphy; son, Melvin F. Murphy and wife Shirley; daughter, Dorothy Strawhand, all of Virginia Beach; four grandsons, Michael Strawhand and wife Annamarie of Iron Station, N.C., Jamie Murphy and wife Pam of Wendell, N.C., David Strawhand and Jason Murphy of Virginia Beach; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Barrett Murphy of Wendell; one brother, Fleetwood Murphy and wife Lillie; two sisters, Velma Cartwright and husband Bobby, Emily Davis and husband Wayne, all of Virginia Beach; nieces and nephews, including special niece, Elaine Etheridege.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Charity United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jamie Murphy officiating. The family will be receiving friends at 557 Princess Anne Road from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today. Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Methodist Church or Creeds Rescue Squad.
