Fredrick Gene Abrams, 87, died Nov. 22, 2007. Mr. Abrams, a native of Newport News, graduated from Newport News High School and attended the College of William and Mary. He had worked for the General Electric Company and retired in 1985 from Virginia Chemicals as director of advertising and public relations. He was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a 50-plus year member of Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge 178. His volunteer work included the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) in Norfolk, Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth and publicity work for the Lost Colony in Manteo, N.C. He served in the Naval Aviation Program during World War II and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 38. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Doris Johnson Abrams; two daughters, Lesley Serenyi and husband Andrew Serenyi and their children Justin and Lindsay of Edison, N.J., Kelly Pleasant and husband Scott Pleasant and their children Nash and Troy of Blacksburg, Va. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, Suffolk, by the Rev. Gary F. Alvis followed by Masonic rites at the chapel. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Centenary United Methodist Church, 3312 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23703 or Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge 178, 509 W. George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake, VA 23323.
