Famed stunsman, stunt coordinator, 2nd unit Director, accomplished commercial fisherman and long time Valley resident, Joe Canutt died on March 16th at Goleta Hospital while being transported home.
Son of Yakima Canutt and Minnie Canutt.
Canutt wore many hats throughout his life and never did anything halfway. Whether riding bulls and saddlebronks on the pro rodeo circuit, serving his country in the navy as a salvage diver, performing hair raising stunts doubling for such stars as Charleton Heston, Fess Parker, Charles Bronson and Steve McQueen, filming incredible action scenes and as a top rate 2nd unit director, or introducing new more efficient fishing equipment and methods, he always strived to make it better than he found it, and always did.

Canutt is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gail, his 3 children, Michelle, Lea and Zeke, as well as 7 grandchildren.

The world is and was a better place because of him, he will be missed.
