James C. Johnson was born in Winchester, Ma., the son of James and Catherine Adaire Johnson. His love of horses prompted him to join the U.S. Cavalry. He made a name for himself as an excellant soldier who bravely participated in
many battles against Indians, Mexicans and bandits. In one such battle his horse was shot out from under him and he went down and the horse
landed on top of him. The injuries he received ended his military career. He spent two years in
an army hospital before being sent home. He spent
the next 30 years as an invalid, unable to walk.
He died in 1925 from the effects of his injuries
sustained when that horse landed on him.
