Maxine Faye Shaffer, 97, longtime resident of Big Spring passed away Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021.
A visitation with family present will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, 2021, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Trinity Baptist Church burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Services are under direction of Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Maxine was born April 8, 1924, in Big Spring, Texas to Jim Robert "Bob" Hull and Clara Mae Nabors Hull.
She was second youngest of six daughters, she attended the Midway School until the untimely death of her mother and three years later, her father. She and her younger sister went to live with their Aunt and Uncle, Fannie and Mack McFarland. They were very strict but loving and Uncle Mack was insistent that she and her sister, Dorothy get a good education. Therefore, she attended school and graduated from Big Spring High School.
Maxine met and later married the love of her life, Howard Shaffer in November 1947, they were married for 55 years at the time of his death in June of 2002.
She was very proud that she had worked 40 plus years during her life and she only had two employers. Maxine went to work for Montgomery Ward in 1943 during her senior year of High School on Saturdays, she started on the floor and later moved to the business office.
A number of years later she excepted a job for the City of Big Spring working at the Water Department and later moved on to the Finance Department.
After she retired from the City of Big Spring where she had worked for 20+ years, she and Howard moved to Robert Lee where they worked with their son, at Shaffer Funeral Home for ten years. After retiring once again they moved back to Big Spring, into the house that they purchased in 1955 and where they had raised their family and where she lived out the remainder of her life.
Maxine was a loving and devoted wife, mother and Memom, she was so proud of her family.
She was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She often talked about the children that she had in her classes.
Maxine is survived by a daughter, Barbara Pender and husband, Tom; a son, Gary Shaffer and wife, Della; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Neva Shaffer; numerous nieces and nephews.
