David Lee Boswell, 35, was killed when the aircraft he was piloting on an instructional flight was overtaken and struck from behind by Pacific Southwest Airlines flight 182, a Boeing 727 jet.

Boswell, a U.S. Marine Corps sergeant based at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA was a licensed Commercial Instrument rated pilot with 407 hours logged. At the time of the collision, he was under "the hood" (a view limiting device used while practicing ILS approaches with instructor Martin B. Kazy Jr.

Their aircraft, Cessna N1177G, fell near 32nd St. & Polk Ave. and was destroyed. Both men were killed almost instantly and 144 people in total died in this disaster.
