Crew of 5 Killed total of 9 killed

Killed in a mid-air collision of TB-26C Marauder #41-35829 with another TB-26 training plane, five miles east of Brownsville Army Airfield, Texas. The twin-engine bombers collided at about 5,000 feet elevation and both plunged into a lake in the La Burrita vicinity of Matamoros, Mexico. All nine men aboard both aircraft were killed.

Investigators speculated the pilots engaged in unauthorized mock aerial combat maneuvers, colliding from opposing directions, while awaiting the arrival of a delayed B-24 Liberator to the vicinity that they were to practice gunnery skills with.
