CANTON -- Della Estelle Donaldson Longwell departed this life at Canton Aultman Hospital on July 9, 1994.

She was born September 12, 1899 in Fallsbury Township, Licking County, Ohio, the only child of Dell and Candace Varner Colville.

In 1911 she became a member of Pleasant Valley Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1912 she moved to Newark, Ohio, where she was a graduate of Newark High School in 1916, and Licking County Normal School in 1917.

She taught for two years in a one-room country school at Locust Grove near Newark.

In 1919 she was married to Edwin S. Donaldson and moved to Akron where she taught for two more years. In 1931 she moved to Cuyahoga Falls. At the beginning of World War II, she returned to teaching, this time in Cuyahoga Falls where she retired in 1961.

She received a B.S. degree in Education from Kent State University in 1945, cum laude, with a major in Geography, which she taught for 19 years at Lincoln School. That same year (1945) she was married to Winfield C. Longwell.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls, its GROW Sunday School Class, Sarah Circle of W.S.C.S., its XYZ retired group, Order of Eastern Star Fernleaf, then Falls Chapter 245 since 1928, State and National Retired Teacher's Assoc., Women's Auxiliary of Salvation Army.
She was a former member of Chaplains group of Falls Chapter O.E.S., Gay Sixties Grandmothers Club, Summit Co. College and Women's Clubs, Northeastern Ohio Geography Teachers Assoc.
She moved to Canton Christian Retirement Home in 1983 where she became a member of Dorcas Sunday Bible School Class of First Christian Church. She did volunteer work at the home until she was ninety years old, at which time she discontinued all except quilting. She wrote her life history for her family when she was eighty-nine years old.

She was preceded in death by husband, Winfield C. Longwell in 1976.

She is survived by daughter, Eleanor Cundiff of Cuyahoga Falls, Ernest Cundiff of Stow; son and daughter-in-law, Edwin and Freda Donaldson of Statesville, N.C.; stepson and daughter-in-law, James and Delores Longwell of New Wilmington, Pa.; granddaughter, Ellen Donaldson of Chatham, N.J.; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Philip and Julie Donaldson; great-grandsons, Jesse and Andrew, all of Lancaster, Pa.; grandsons, Ronald and Randall Longwell of New Wilmington, Pa.; stepniece, Harriet Livensparger of Columbus, Ohio; and a dear friend, Donna Fry of Canton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front Street, Cuyahoga Falls, Rev. Paul Beal officiating. Burial Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Calling hours one hour before services.
