EVELYN R. WHARTON

Asheville - Evelyn R. Wharton, 90, widow of Willie Wharton, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2007, at John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville.

Mrs. Wharton was born in Pamlico County on Dec. 29, 1916, to the late Willie and Rosa Willis Banks. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are her daughter, Betty Ann Tweed, of Candler; son, Bob Wharton, and his wife, Penny, of Weaverville; four grandchildren, Mark and Paul Wharton, Marion Thomas and Scott Tweed; five great-grandchildren, Kara, Kristin, Randi, Samantha and Amanda; two great-great-grandchildren, Courtney, and Shelby.

The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Rev. John Honeycutt officiating.

Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
