Dr. Winfield J. Abbe, age 82, died August 31, 2021, in Athens, GA.
He is survived by his wife, nee Mary Anne Hoit; son Stephen M. Abbe, grandchildren Shannon Marie Abbe and Caleb W. Abbe, of Florida; brother, Karl F. Abbe and sister, Rauha Abbe Hilander of California.
Winfield was born 27 February 1939 in Cleveland, OH, to Charles E. and Helga Paulsen Abbe. The family moved to California, where he remained until 1966 at which time he came to UGA where he was a tenured professor in the Physics Department until 1978. Afterward he was an investor and rented his property.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jeanne Abbe Huapaya.
Mr. Winfield will be buried in the Christian Valley Cemetery in Sumter County, Alabama.
