John Flinn lived with his family on Cabin Creek about 1/2 mile from the Kanawha river, in what is now Cabin Creek, community in Kanawha County, West Virginia. About 1786, John Flinn was killed by a group of Native American Indians. It is thought that Simon Girty may have been one of the Indians. Johns' wife, Elizabeth (Halstead) and three of their children, Nancy, John (Jr.), and Cloe were taken captive by the Indians. Elizabeth was killed/died in captivity. Cloe was recued by Daniel Boone. Nancy was rescued by relatives after several years. John Jr. spent 14 years with the Indians. Both Cloe and John Jr's captivity is well documented in the Lyman Draper manuscripts. The Flinn cabin was on Cabin Creek, about 1/2 mile from the Kanawha river, located bewteen Flinn's Wet Branch and Flinn's Dry Branch, both now referred to as simply Wet Branch and Dry Branch.
