Wichita, Kansas - Laresta R. (Abbott) Dunfield, 92, from Wichita, and formerly Augusta, passed away on Saturday, September 4th, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 18th at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Wichita. Per her family, masks are required at the memorial service. A Graveside Service will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. The family wishes Memorial Contributions be made out to Camp Hope or First United Methodist Church - Television Ministry, left in care of the Dunsford Funeral Home. Laresta was born on Thursday, January 31st, 1929, in Winfield to the late Ray R. and Cleona O. (Baird) Abbott. She is preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Abbott and half-brother, Don Broomfield Jr. Laresta leaves behind her daughter, DeAnn Shimp (James); son, Dr. Jay Dunfield (Julia); grandsons, Pierce and Jack; granddaughter Alexandria (Logan); a nephew, nieces, and other extended family. Laresta deeply loved her family, investing her time, energies, and resources in them. She actively shared her abiding faith in God. Laresta pursued her lifelong passion for history through tireless reading, and experienced joy listening to all styles of music. Laresta found fulfillment in serving others by volunteering at Camp Hope, St. Francis Hospital, Botanica, and First United Methodist Church. Laresta Dunfield gave to others her entire life, and leaves her children, grandchildren, and extended family with cherished memories and an enduring example of a life lived for others.
