Lyle G. Cathcart, age 86, of 1715 Waushara Drive, Marshfield, was called to his heavenly home on Thursday January 19, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday January 30, 2017 at the Hansen- Schilling Funeral Home, 1010 East Veterans Parkway, Marshfield. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service, Monday at the funeral home. Lyle was born January 3, 1931 in West Milwaukee to Charles and Pauline (Lueth) Cathcart. His mother died when he was age 5. He attended Longfellow school in Milwaukee, kindergarten through the 2nd grade and 3rd grade at Evansville while at a foster home. Lyle started the 4th grade at Curtiss, Wisconsin while living with his maternal grandparents, Walter and Louise Lueth, who graciously took him and his older brother, Charles, to live with them on their farm east of Curtiss. Lyle graduated from Abbotsford high school in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Navy (Seabees) in January 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1955. With the help of the GI Bill he attained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Conservation from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point campus in 1959. His life' s work was with the USDA, Soil Conservation Service, starting in Phillips, Price County, Wisconsin, then with tours of duty in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, Warren County , Pennsylvania and finishing in Franklin, Venango County, Pennsylvania. Lyle married the love of his life, Marlene Strebe on June 8, 1957 in the Presbyterian Church, Abbotsford. Together they raised two sons; Daniel (Beth ), Louisville, Kentucky and Gregory, Franklin, Pennsylvania and his granddaughter; Emily, Louisville, Kentucky.
