Edith V. Anderson, 97, of Lake Katrine, died peacefully Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Ten Broeck Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Clay & M. Lillian Purvis Sickles.
An original Kingstonian and matriarch of four generations, she was the glue that held her family together over the course of 76 years. She was married to her husband Paul in the wake of his return from WWII and immediately began helping the world to heal with her endless maternal love and affection. Her tenacity in the face of adversity was awe-inspiring as she navigated the trials of raising a family through uncertain times and challenges. Through it all, she healed wounds and dried tears with her mastery of the "The Anderson Hug" and the most perfect homemade cookies. She taught that resilience is born of family devotion and that there is no substitute for love. The world is a lesser place because she is gone, but such a better place because she was here.
Edith is survived by her four children, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, Edith was predeceased by her husband, Paul Anderson, who passed in 1995 and her five siblings, Clay, George, Vincent, Webster Sickles and Werberta Nickerson.
Edith will be reposing at the Simpson-Hammerl Funeral Home, Albany Ave on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM.
A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Kendra Van Houten of Fair Street Reformed Church, officiating.
Interment will follow the funeral service in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
