Ivan Harris was the fourth child of Richard Harris and Harriet Mary née Anderson, he was born at 7 Victoria Terrace, South Circular Road, Limerick. His father was a merchant and his mother was the daughter of a Scottish merchant and his Danish wife. Ivan had six siblings; Violet Mary, William Anderson, Richard*, Harriet*, and twins Mary Annabelle and Richard Hayman. *Richard and Harriet both died at or shortly after birth. The family purchased and relocated to 'Overdale', Ennis Road, Limerick in the late 1890s.
Ivan married Mildred Josephine 'Millie' Harty on 29th September 1920 in St Munchin's Church, Limerick. They had eight children together, two daughters and six sons; Harriet May 'Harmay', Mary Audrey, James 'Jimmy', Patrick Ivan, Richard 'Dickie', Noel, Diarmid Gerard 'Dermot' and William. He died on 13th February 1961 at his home 'Overdale', his cause of death was disease of the coronary arteries 15 years certified. He was predeceased by his wife and younger daughter Audrey, he was interred in the Harris family plot in Mount Saint Lawrence, with his wife, parents, grandparents, uncles, daughter, granddaughter and later his elder daughter, three sons, son-in-law, two daughters-in-law.
He was the father of actor Richard Harris and director Dermot Harris.
