Genevieve Carvel Land, 95, of the 3100 block of Shore Drive, died Nov. 30, 2007, at home. Mrs. Land was born in New York City and was reared in Baltimore by the late Arnold Wrightson Carvel and Elizabeth Nostrand. She was the widow of James R. Land and was preceded in death by her brother, Elbert Nostrand Carvel, two term Governor of Delaware. Mrs. Land was a past president of Junior Woman's Club of Norfolk, a member of King's Daughters Circle and a member of Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Land Darden of Newport News; her son, James R. Land Jr. and his wife Judith of Virginia Beach; nine grandchildren, Ann Canada, John Darden, David Darden, Lea Lee Land, James L. Land, Bari Land, Ashley Land, Camron Land and Jenine Land; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church by the Rev. C. Christopher Thompson. Mrs. Land will be buried with a private service in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, 800 Olney Road, Norfolk, VA 23507. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
