Caleb Stinson, the 5th of the 7 children of William Stinson and 1/w Mollie McDaniel, was born January 11, 1810 in South Carolina. His paternal grandparents were Thomas and Margaret (nee Unknown) Stinson. His maternal grandfather was George McDaniel. The William Stinson family had moved to Grayson County, Kentucky by 1814 where his mother died in 1829. His father married 2/w Mary Dewees, the daughter of Edward Dewees and Rutha Elizabeth Harrell, on November 7, 1837.

Caleb Stinson and Lydia Ann Day, the daughter of Joseph Day and Margaret Elizabeth Brooks, were married about 1830. They were the parents of the following children born in Grayson County:

Caleb Stinson's wife Lydia died in Grayson County at the age of 53 years and 5 months on February 4, 1863. Caleb lived to see the end of the Civil War. He died there at the age of 55 years, 6 months and 13 days on July 24, 1865. They were both buried in the Miller Cemetery near Caneyville, Kentucky.
