Barbara grew up and attended school in Pryor, graduating from Pryor High School in 1961. Early in her life and career, she was a single mother to four children. She was married to the love of her life, Thomas Gene Patterson, on May 6, 1978 in Pryor. She was a driven person and very independent. She owned and operated Shelter Insurance-Barbara Patterson Agency in Wagoner from 1976-2005.
Barbara loved flowers and loved gardening. She also enjoyed crocheting, painting, playing bridge and watching horse racing. She was known to be an immaculate housekeeper and liked everything nice, neat and clean. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her kids and grandkids. She attended many ballgames of her kids as they were growing up and later attended grandkids games. She was also known to be a very generous person; if there was someone she knew who was in need of anything, she would try to find a way to help.
Barbara was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pryor.
She is survived by her husband, Tom, of the home; four children, Billy Jack Burchett and wife Karen of Wagoner; Dianne Taylor and husband Jimmy of Adair, Michael Burchett of Olathe, Kansas and Mallory Skelton and husband Cory of Adair; three stepchildren, Shanna Leonard of Broken Arrow, Marc Patterson and wife Shelley of Owasso and Clayton Patterson and wife Joanna of Salina; 20 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Bonnee Blue Pierson.
