BIG SANDY — Franklin F. Collins "Papa Bo," 85, of Big Sandy, died Monday, November 26, 2007 at his residence on Rhodes Street in Big Sandy following a long illness.
Mr. Collins was born October 31, 1922 in Asco, a son of the late George Washington and Maudie Dunford Collins at Jolo. He was a long time resident of Big Sandy, a United States Army Veteran having served during World War II, a retired coal miner and a member of the U.M.W.A. Frank believed in a honest, hard days work. He loved his family and enjoyed being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sitting on the porch. The neighborhood children loved to stop by for ice cream and talk.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Ethel Hall Collins; 10 sisters and one brother.
Survivors include three sons, Franklin Dale Collins and wife Ledia of Montcalm, Roger H. Collins and wife Kathy of Big Sandy, George Edward Collins and wife Betty of Bristol, Tenn.; one daughter, Reda Ward of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Patricia Pirecy of Beckley; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Edith Harvey of Reddy Creek.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Gene Ball and the Reverend Randall Dority officiating at the Ark of Safety Church in Roderfield. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Sandy River American Legion Post No. 175 and VFW Post No. 1144. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family at the church Friday evening, November 30, 2007 from 6 to 9 p.m.
