Obituary:
Robert Franklin Johnson was born on Nov. 4, 1916 in Fort Abercrombie, N.D. His youth was spent in North Dakota, and later in South Dakota, where he worked as part of the CCC camp there. In the 1930s he moved to California. On Aug. 8, 1940 he married Lois Margaret Berg.
Bob worked for the Edison Company in Inglewood, Calif., then for Standard Oil until he entered the U.S. armed services where he served in anti-aircraft during World War II. After the war he and his brothers were in the service station and Ford mechanical business until 1966. Owning and operating Johnson's Sporting Goods for 12 years was the fulfillment of a dream. He loved the valley and meeting its people. Then Bob's hearing failed so that his operating the business was no longer possible. The Johnsons celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1990. Bob and Lois are charter members of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.
Bob died at the age of 82 years on Dec. 18, 1998 in Shafter, Calif. Mourning him are his wife, Lois; their two children, Diane and husband Philip Aune of Redding, Calif., and Mark R. Johnson of Kernville; five grandchildren, Todd Aune, Jennifer and Jessica Johnson, Alissa Aune, and Laura and husband Michael Haskell; and many loving and caring nephews and nieces; and all of you who are here today, along with those who can be here only in spirit.
He is interred at the Kern River Valley Cemetery, in anticipation of the resurrection.
