She was born in Western Arkansas, to John T. and Mary Lewis Hodge Harris. She moved with them by covered wagon to rural Wilburton, the Battles community, in 1909. Family members lived in that region through 1950. She was baptized a member of the Baptist church, and played piano from childhood. She and her first husband, Mack O'Connell, owned and operated the Strang ranch and the Lee David Ranch during the 1930's and early 1940's. Later, she was married briefly to Richard Steele in Oklahoma City. She retired from work at John A. Brown and Company Department Store in 1971. She lived in Oklahoma City at Andrews Square, where she was a Retired Service Volunteer Person (RSVP) and a member of the Capitol Hill Baptist Church until 1995, when she entered long-term care in Hartshorne and then Antlers. She died at the age of 94 in Antlers. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marie Boone; five brothers, James D., Roy O., William O., J. Alva and Thomas B.; one niece, Dorothy Bynum Hooper and one nephew, Lewis Harris.
