Earl L. Poppe, age 78, of Fort Collins, Colorado died November 15, 2007 at Poudre Valley Hospital.

Earl LaVern Poppe was born July 1, 1929 in Byron, Nebraska to Carl and Frieda Poppe. He grew up in Byron and served in the Army Ordinance Corps during the Korean War.

On February 7, 1953, Earl married Shirley Rae Harris at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Ruskin, NE. They lived formerly in Fairbury, NE, and Denver, CO prior to moving to Fort Collins in 1975. Earl worked throughout his career for the U. S. Postal Service. Originally in Denver, he then became the Postmaster for the Bellvue and LaPorte Post Offices. His family and his church were most important to him. Earl was a "silently large man" who found joy every Monday visiting and having coffee with the residents at Good Samaritan Village.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; daughters, Cheryl (and Dennis) Maw of Westminster and Pam Stokes of Fort Collins; grandchildren, Joshua (and Amy) Stokes of Fort Collins, Melissa Maw of Denver, Susie Stokes (and Richard Cordova) of Wellington and Brian Earl Maw of Thornton, CO; great-grandchildren, Deanna Cordova, Alana Rose, Sydney Stokes and Drew Stokes; and his siblings, Viola Rogge of Superior, NE, Raymond Poppe of Pensacola, Florida, Donald Poppe of Deshler, NE and Larry Poppe of Cantonment, FL. He was preceded in death by siblings, Louise Ahrens, Wilbert Poppe, Edna Sanders, Hannah Medcalf and Martin Poppe.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, November 26th at Peace With Christ Lutheran Church, 1412 West Swallow, Ft. Collins. An interment, with full military honors will be held later at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Peace With Christ Radio Ministries in Earl's memory.
