Otis A. Rice enlisted at Marysville, CA March 14, 1865, and, as a corporal in Company A, California 4th Infantry Regiment on March 31, 1865. Mustered out on 30 Nov 1865 at Presidio, San Francisco, California. Sources: Register of California Men in the War of the Rebellion 1861 to 1867.

Chico Daily Record, Monday, July 3, 1899, pg 1 col 2: John C. Smith of Chico has been granted a pension of $6 per month, and Otis Alonzo Rice of Lovelock will receive $8 per month.

He applied for veterans benefits on August 12, 1891, and was buried at Chico Cemetery, per CCA records, on September 26, 1916.

Otis Rice, aged 64, born Massachusetts, occupation retired, joined the Major General Henry W. Halleck Post No. 19, GAR, of Chico in 1901. He died on September 24, 1916.
