Grey SKIPWITH was the first son of Sir Peyton SKIPWITH, 7th Baronet, of Prestwould, Mecklenburg, Virginia and his first wife, Anne MILLER.

He was sent to England for his education - at Eton and Cambridge.

On 22 Apr 1801, Grey married Harriet TOWNSEND by Licence at Honington, Warwickshire.

Grey's father, Sir Peyton passed away in Virginia on 09 Oct 1805. Grey succeeded his father's baronetcy, becoming the 8th Baronet. However, his father bequeathed his estates in Virginia to Sir Grey's younger brothers, as he was already provided for as heir apparent to his relation Sir Thomas SKIPWITH, 4th Baronet of Newbold Pacey Hall.

Lady Harriet and Sir Grey had 12 sons and 8 eight daughters; 2 of which (Peyton and Frederick) died in infancy.

Sir Grey was a Member of Parliament for Warwickshire (1831-1832) and Warwickshire South (1832-1834).

He passed away at Newbold Hall on 13 May 1852, and was succeeded in the baronetcy and his estates by his eldest son, Sir Thomas George SKIPWITH.

🕊DEATH NOTICE | The Morning Post (London) - 17 May 1852

DEATH OF SIR GRAY [GREY] SKIPWITH, BART.—We have to record the demise of this venerable baronet, who expired, a few days since, at the advanced age of 81. The deceased gentleman succeeded to the title in 1805. He was a deputy-lieutenant of, and a large landed proprietor in, Warwickshire, which county he represented in Parliament from 1831 to 1834.

Sir Gray [Grey] married, in 1801, the third daughter of Gore Townshend [Townsend], Esq. of Honnington [Honington] Hall, county of Warwick, and by that lady, who died in 1830, he leaves, with other issue, a son and heir, Thomas George, born in 1803.

This family is descended from one of the feudal lords created by William the Conqueror. The name of Skipwith is assumed from an estate in the possession of the family.
