Mason City, Ill., May 12. Word was received from Chicago yesterday announcing the death of Mrs. Mary J. Abbott, wife of J.B. Abbott of this city.

Mr. Abbott left on the first train for Chicago and will accompany the remains home.

Mary Jane Ainsworth was born on the old Ainsworth homestead near Chandlerville on July 8, 1849 and was at the time of her passing 64 years, 10 months and 3 days of age.

She was married to J.B Abbott on Oct. 10, 1869, the result of this union being the birth of three sons and one daughter.

Mr. Abbott and family resided near Natrona for a number of years and a couple of years at Delavan, after which they removed Mason City where they have been highly esteemed residents for over a quarty of a century.

Mrs. Abbott was one of the most active members of the local M.E. church and its various societies, was a prominent member of Madaline Chapter No. 396, Order of the Eastern Star of Mason City, and was prominent socially and was sadly missed by a wide circle of warm friends.

Mrs. Abbott had been in poor health over a year. About three weeks ago, she went to Wesley hospital in Chicago for treatment and was thought to be improving and would soon be able to return home.

The sudden news of her passing came as a shock to family and friends.

She is survived by her husband and the following children: R.H. Abbott, of Petersburg; A.E. Abbott, of Mason City; Ira Abbott, of Petersburg; and Mrs. F.A. McCarty, of Jacksonville; besides two brothers and one sister, J.A. and W.T. Ainsworth and Mrs. C.E. Freeman, all of Mason City; and many warm friends who will mourn her passing.

The remains were brought to Mason City.

The funeral services were held from the local First M.E. church.

The interment was in the Mason City cemetery.
