Janet Marjene Baker, 84, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, August 2, 2021 at the Caring For Life Hospice in Huntsville, Alabama. McConnell Memorial Chapel in Athens, Alabama is handling arrangements for the family. A celebration of Life Service will be held at the Shelbyville Indiana First Baptist Church, to be scheduled later this year. The family requests in lieu of flowers or gifts that memorial donations in her name be made to the First Baptist Church, 14 W Broadway, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.

Mrs Baker was born September 23, 1936 in Randolph County, Indiana to Ralph Jay Vining Keister and Marjene Adelma Long.

Janet graduated from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Marion Co, Indiana , Class of 1954. While in high school she participated in Trialge Club, Science Club, Booster Club, Sunshine Society, Vegetable Judging, 4H, Girls' State, SPQR, Senior Office Staff, Senior and Frosh Library Staff, and trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma for N.J.V.G.A.

She married Charles William 'Bill' Baker on May 18, 1957 and was married for 58 years until his death in 2016.

They have a son, William Jay 'Bill' Baker who lives in Athens, Alabama with his wife, Vicki.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Stanley Keister and a sister, Carolyn Kempe.

She lived in Shelbyville for 62 years before relocating to Athens, Alabama in 2019 to be near her son.

She was a member of the Shelbyville First Baptist Church and was employed by Kroger in Shelbyville for 35 years.

Janet was a devoted wife and mother who will be dearly missed by her immediate and extended family of nieces, nephews and friends.
