Helen was the daughter of Richard Andrew and Pearline (Hawks) Williams. She married Lesley David Singleton on December 2, 1950, in Pigott, Arkansas and divorced on June 6, 1958, in Dyersburg. She married Carl Frances Scarberry on August 2, 1966, in Ripley but divorced about 1971. She married Robert Staples on May 13, 1972, in Chicago and later divorced. She married Robert E. "Curley" Barzycki in 1991; he died a few months later. She married Neely Elton Wishard on December 29, 1993, in Dyersburg.

Survivors include 3 children, 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, and 1 sister. She was preceded in death by both husbands, her parents, her siblings, Lindell Williams and Peggy Evelyn Jowers, and one granddaughter, an unknown Morris in 1970 in Los Angeles.
