Sunnyvale Resident For 42 Years Dies
SUNNYVALE, Jan 17,--Funeral services will be held here Monday morning for Mrs. Anna Mary Schurra, 85, pioneer Sunnyvale woman, who died last night at her home, 156 Frances street.
Services will be held from the Hays and Wyant chapel, at 9:30 a. m., and will be followed by requiem high mass at St. Martin's church at 10 o'clock. Rosary will be recited at the Hays and Wyant chapel tomorrow night at 8 o'clock.
A native of France, Mrs. Schurra was one of the real pioneers of Sunnyvale, coming here 42 years ago when the community consisted of only a few small houses and a one teacher school. The town was known as Murphy's station at that time.
Widow of the late Alphonse Schurra, Mrs. Schurra was born in Alsace-Lorraine, France on August 10, 1856. She married in 1877, and she and her husband came here from San Jose in 1899.
Both husband and wife were at one time in the employment of General Naglee, Civil War veteran, and served both General Lee and General Grant while employed at the Naglee estate.
A member of St. Martin's Catholic church. Mrs. Schurra is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Billioux of Brea and Mrs. Elsie Burnett of Sunnyvale; two sons, Justin Schurra of Sunnyvale and Albert Schurra of San Jose; five grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
