PORTAL, Ga. -- Mr. Carl Williams, 78, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Bulloch Memorial Hospital, Statesboro.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Joiner-Shepard Funeral Home with the Revs. D.R. Parker and Harold Shepard officiating. Burial will be in the Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Williams, a native of Bulloch County, had retired as a farmer. Mr. Williams was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was chairman of the administrative board.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtice Sparks Williams; a son, Tony Williams, Portal; a brother, Bert Williams, Portal; a sister, Blanche Brannen, Savannah; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be J.M. Bowen, Sam Bowen, John Lott, Roy Rountree, Jackie Reeves and Bobby Joe Cowart.

The family will receive friends today at 5 p.m. at Joiner-Shepard Funeral Home.
