Brenda Thomson passed away Monday, November 9 after a brief but fierce battle with COVID-19. She was born February 19, 1957 to Wilma and Elroy Keen. The family resided in Buhl until they moved to Santa Barbara California. They had adventures of all kinds there until 1969, when they returned to Buhl. Brenda spent her senior year in high school as the Buhl Indian mascot, entertaining the crowd with her one-of-a-kind antics. She married Kirk Thomson in 1978 and the couple made their home in Castleford. Life happened, and though the ups and downs of marriage led them askew, they, along with their two kids, Kari and Tyler, ended up back in Castleford and remarried...To each other… Brenda's favorite years were spent as the clerk of Castleford schools. She never missed a game, home or away. She helped with every prom, graduation, pep assembly, senior sneak, and tailgate party. She never hesitated to jump in and help wherever she was needed. she was a friend, counselor, and confidant. Her dedication to the kids of Castleford was seriously unparalleled, and something she was always proud of. After her years at the school came to an end, Brenda found joy working on the family farm. The yardwork also kept her busy, and it wasn't rare to see her on a tractor or lawnmower, waving like crazy as you drove past. She always had a smile and a wave, or a smack to the arm for anyone… Even a stranger. She would have walked home without a coat in a blizzard if it meant someone else would be warm. Brenda's kids and granddaughters were her reason for living. As the multiple kids she 'adopted' over the years can attest, she could make you feel like family almost immediately. She was always taking in strays… Cousins, cats, dogs, random teenagers, exchange students … The list goes on and on. she always had a soft spot for anyone or anything that needed help. She said there were two kinds of people in the world… Queen bees and worker bees. Brenda was the exception. She was both. She worked harder than anyone else and always kept her crown straight and sparkly(well, maybe with a tuft of grass or two sticking out) she'd finish the job with a yell and high kick, and off she'd go. The people of Castleford will remember her noisy "encouragement" at sporting events. Anyone who knew her, knew that her heart was always in the right place, even if it didn't quite find the right way out of her mouth. Her husband, kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, brother, sisters, parents, grandparents and cousins and in-laws were the most important things in her world. She was always up for an adventure, especially taking her beloved waverunners to the river or Salmon Dam. She loved taking the family "campinhome" to stay somewhere for a few days, and you could always count on hot chocolate and cookies before breakfast, and wars with mice or moths in the middle of the night. Truly one of a kind, Brenda was loved by many, and will be hugely missed. She was a superstar in every sense of the word, and our community is a little dimmer without her sparkle… And a little quieter without that yell.
