Jack Alton "J.A." Bedford, Jr., 88, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Willow Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Goldsboro. Born in Wayne County on December 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Jack A. Bedford and Martha Taylor Bedford.

In addition to his parents, J.A. was preceded in death by his sisters, Frances Armstrong, Betty Zick and Alice Wethington.

J.A. is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Jean Bartlett Bedford; brother, Robert E. Bedford and brother-in -law, Howard Wethington.

J.A. was the owner of Bedford Hatchery. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where he served in several capacities. He was a former deacon, Sunday School teacher, youth leader, and served two terms on the board of directors. J.A. served two terms with the PFWB World Witness Department.

J.A. proudly served his country in the United States Army.

A service to celebrate J.A.'s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Dane Williford officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Interment with military honors will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at Wayne Memorial Park.
