Gertrude Alma "Memaw" Zschech
October 20, 1913 – November 28, 2007
Gertrude Alma Zschech, was born on October 20, 1913, the daughter of Emil and Emma Domann Dube in Fedor, Texas. She left this life to be with her Lord on November 28, 2007 at Giddings Healthcare Center at the age of 94. She was baptized on October 31, 1913 and confirmed in the Christian faith on April 10, 1927 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fedor. She was united in marriage to Carl Zschech on November 22, 1936 also at Trinity. Together they had a farm in Paige, Texas until illness intervened in 1972 and Carl passed away. She then moved to Austin to be near her daughter and became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. During her time in Austin, she enjoyed working in the lunchrooms of the Austin Public Schools. Her hobbies included sewing and making beautiful cakes.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Walter and Richard Dube, son-in-law Elwood M. "Woody" Stein. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn M. Stein of Pflugerville, Tx. Granddaughters Patricia and husband Dale Strickland of Pflugerville, Tx: Ellen and husband Mike Coble of Round Rock, Tx. Her greatest joys, her great grandchildren, Joshua Strickland, Twins Paige and Megan Strickland, and Payton Coble. She is also survived by her sister Laura Zschech and sister-in-law Josephine Dube, both of Brenham, Tx. And many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Pallbearers are Butch Watson, Gary Blair, Alan Zschech, John Zschech, Dale Strickland, Joshua Strickland.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at 3:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Giddings, Tx., with Rev. Robert Tiner and Rev. Walter Dube officiating. Burial followed in Giddings City Cemetery.
