Son of Floyd Earl and Viola May (Bricker) Danner, he married Marjorie Ellen Taylor, December 3, 1941 in Canton.

She survives, along with one daughter, Nancy (Edward) Marlow; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marjorie Peters and Alice Stevenor.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one son, David Danner, one brother and one sister.

Gene worked for Swearingen Wholesale Company Vending Machine, later becoming its owner and operator. He served as a City of Canton alderman.

He served with the US Army in Europe during WWII as a Technical Sergeant receiving a Bronze Star.
