December 28, 1932 - September 18, 2021

Gentle and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Melvin Paul Aizen Sr. departed this life peacefully on Saturday, September 18th at 12:01am at his home in Labadieville surrounded in love by his family. Melvin was 88, a native of Labadieville and a retired telecom infrastructure foreman.

Visitation will be at Landry's Funeral Home, Labadieville, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am Thursday, September 23, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Labadieville at 11:00 am, with the Rev. Eddie Martin, celebrant. Entombment in St. Philomena Mausoleum.

Melvin is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Augustine "Tee" Hebert Aizen; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Reva Nunnery and husband David of Labadieville, Regina Clouatre and husband Randy of St. Amant, and Rhonda Aizen also of St. Amant; and one son, Melvin "Ike" Aizen Jr. and wife Joy of Labadieville. "Popsie" as he is known to family, is also survived by twelve adoring grandchildren, John Achee, Elizabeth Blanchard Clouatre, Dollie Plaisance, Gregory Achee, Jeremy Aizen, Anna Nunnery Martinez, Whitney, Randy Jr., Danny, and Gregory Clouatre, Lauren Clouatre Brazan, and Jeffery Nunnery; seventeen great-grandchildren, Trey, Chloe, Dylan, Zoey, Brennan, Sadie, Wesley, Sofia, Jude, Jae'lyn, Jeremiah, Gabe, Inzlee, Thomas, Luke, Mason, and Emile; and by one sister, Shirley Aizen.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Theogene Aizen and May Tardiff Aizen, and brother Raymond Aizen.

Melvin enjoyed the outdoors most. He was a skilled deer and rabbit hunter and his fantastic gardening abilities meant that his family and neighbors enjoyed a bounty of delicious vegetables each season.

He loved being a cowboy and kept and cared for horses, taking much pride in prepping and showing them for trail rides, parades, and barrel racing. He raised beagles for hunting and amused his grandchildren by naming his dogs after them.

In his retirement years, he could be found having early morning coffee with friends, discussing life's most important matters and watching the farmers work the cane fields.

Popsie's family will remember him at the stove making a big pot of spaghetti "gravy" or cooking up the latest hunt in a pot of sauce piquante. He was their gentle giant, always soft-spoken, kind, patient, and sentimental and they will smile and remember him forever at the scent of peppermint and tobacco.
