James Carmichael

James W. Carmichael of Eugene died Nov. 29 of age-related causes at age 84. Burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

He was born June 20, 1923, in Sharonville, Ohio, to James and Emily Schweikert Carmichael.

He married Marian Foss in October 1945 in Bend. She died in August 1996. He married Marjorie Wood on Dec. 20, 1999, in Eugene.

He graduated from Miami of Ohio with a bachelor's degree and from the University of Oregon with a master's degree in education. He served as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from 1943 to 1945, with a rank of first lieutenant. Carmichael worked as a teacher beginning in 1953 and taught drafting at North Eugene High School from 1958 to 1993.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, James and Tim, both of Eugene, and Dave of Springfield; and five grandchildren.
